About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Digital Entertainment

arenaflex is a global leader in streaming entertainment, delivering millions of hours of premium content to audiences worldwide. With a portfolio that spans movies, series, live sports, and original productions, arenaflex combines cutting‑edge technology with storytelling expertise to create unforgettable experiences. Our mission is to redefine how people consume entertainment by leveraging data‑driven personalization, innovative platform engineering, and a relentless focus on user delight.

Why This Role Matters

As a Senior Software Development Engineer – Data Platform, you will be at the heart of arenaflex’s data ecosystem. You will design, build, and maintain the high‑performance data infrastructure that powers recommendation engines, analytics dashboards, and real‑time streaming experiences for hundreds of millions of users. This is a unique opportunity to shape the data backbone of a world‑class entertainment platform while working remotely from anywhere in California.

Role Overview

In the Information Stage (Data Platform) team, you will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineering peers to deliver robust, scalable, and secure data solutions. Your work will enable cross‑functional teams to ingest, process, and query petabyte‑scale datasets with low latency, ensuring that arenaflex can deliver personalized content recommendations, real‑time analytics, and seamless streaming experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and operate large‑scale data pipelines that ingest and transform petabytes of streaming and user interaction data.
  • Design and implement data storage solutions (e.g., Delta Lake, Apache Hudi, Parquet) that support both batch and real‑time analytics workloads.
  • Build and maintain high‑throughput messaging systems using Apache Kafka and its ecosystem to enable reliable data flow across services.
  • Collaborate with machine‑learning engineers to create feature stores and data feeds that power recommendation algorithms and personalization engines.
  • Optimize SQL and Flink/Flash streaming queries for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.
  • Drive adoption of best practices in data governance, security, and compliance across the data platform.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, code quality, and collaborative problem solving.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Glue) and evaluate their fit for arenaflex’s evolving data strategy.
  • Participate in architectural reviews, capacity planning, and incident response to ensure high availability of critical data services.
  • Contribute to the creation of internal documentation, runbooks, and knowledge‑sharing sessions for the broader engineering organization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience: 4–6 years of professional software development experience, with at least 3 years focused on data‑intensive systems.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Go, or Python.
  • Big Data Technologies: Hands‑on experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink or Apache Spark Streaming, Hadoop ecosystem components, and SQL‑based analytics engines (Hive, Presto, Trino).
  • Cloud Platforms: Strong working knowledge of AWS services such as S3, EMR, RDS, and Glue.
  • Data Modeling: Deep understanding of data storage formats (Parquet, ORC) and lake‑house concepts.
  • Problem‑Solving: Demonstrated ability to design solutions for high‑scale, low‑latency data processing challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with data lake‑house platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with stream processing frameworks like Apache Flink, Apache Beam, or Structured Streaming.
  • Knowledge of data governance tools (e.g., Apache Atlas, AWS Lake Formation).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Track record of contributing to open‑source projects or publishing technical articles.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect complex data flows, identify bottlenecks, and propose optimized solutions.
  • Collaboration: Proven experience working in cross‑functional, agile teams, and influencing technical direction.
  • Leadership: Capacity to mentor junior engineers and lead technical discussions without formal authority.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with fast‑paced environments, shifting priorities, and evolving product requirements.
  • Quality Focus: Commitment to writing clean, testable, and well‑documented code.
  • Customer Obsession: Understanding of how data infrastructure directly impacts user experience and business outcomes.

arenaflex invests heavily in the professional development of its engineers. In this role, you will have access to:

  • Mentorship from senior architects who have built data platforms at scale.
  • Sponsored certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer).
  • Internal tech talks, hackathons, and knowledge‑sharing forums.
  • Opportunities to lead high‑visibility projects that directly influence product strategy.
  • A clear career ladder from Senior Engineer to Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, and beyond.

arenaflex offers a competitive total rewards package that includes:

  • Base salary ranging from $35,000 to $40,000 per year, commensurate with experience and market benchmarks.
  • Performance‑based bonuses and equity grants to share in the company’s success.

  • Generous paid time off, parental leave, and flexible holiday policies.
  • Remote‑first work model with a stipend for home office setup and high‑speed internet.
