About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Space Connectivity

arenaflex is a global leader in innovative technology solutions, driving the next generation of low‑earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks that deliver high‑speed broadband connectivity to underserved regions worldwide. Our ambitious mission, powered by cutting‑edge research and a relentless commitment to excellence, is transforming how people access information, communicate, and thrive in a hyper‑connected world. As part of our expanding team, you will contribute to groundbreaking projects that shape the future of space‑based communications, while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote work environment.

Why This Role Matters

At arenaflex, the reliability of our satellite constellations hinges on the performance of the battery systems that power them. As a Remote Battery Cell Engineer, you will play a critical role in testing, qualifying, and optimizing lithium‑ion (Li‑ion) cells that power the power packs for our LEO satellites. Your work will directly impact the durability, efficiency, and safety of the power solutions that keep our satellites operational for years in the harsh environment of space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define and execute advanced battery cell testing protocols.
  • Design, set up, and run comprehensive test plans to evaluate the performance, safety, and longevity of new Li‑ion cells.
  • Develop analytical models based on test data to predict cell behavior under various operating conditions.
  • Operate and maintain battery cyclers (e.g., Arbin, Neware) and associated test equipment, ensuring accurate and repeatable results.
  • Analyze test data using tools such as MATLAB, Python, JMP, or Minitab, and generate detailed technical reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Document test procedures, results, and findings in accordance with industry standards and internal quality systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices throughout all testing activities.
  • Provide technical support and insights to the battery pack design team, influencing design decisions and material selections.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting enhancements to testing methodologies and equipment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the organization to foster a culture of learning.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in battery cell testing, preferably with Li‑ion technology, in a research or development environment.
  • Proficiency in operating battery cyclers and familiarity with common test protocols (OCV, EIS, DCIR, HPPC, cycle life, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data‑analysis software such as MATLAB, Python, JMP, or Minitab.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret electrochemical data and translate findings into actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear documentation and reporting.
  • U.S. citizenship, permanent residency (Green Card), or authorized work status in the United States, in compliance with export control regulations.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology for electrochemical performance analysis.
  • Knowledge of battery materials (electrolytes, cathodes, anodes) and degradation mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with thermal management and mechanical testing of battery cells for space applications.
  • Hands‑on experience with space‑qualified battery testing standards and qualification processes.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining strong collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
  • Passion for emerging technologies and a desire to contribute to pioneering space‑based infrastructure.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of electrochemical principles, battery architecture, and testing methodologies.
  • Problem‑Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex test setups, identify root causes, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous record‑keeping and adherence to rigorous documentation standards.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills, with the capacity to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with a fast‑paced, evolving environment and willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
  • Integrity & Safety: Commitment to maintaining a safe laboratory environment and upholding ethical standards.
