Senior Data Engineer – AWS Cloud, Event-Driven Pipelines & Real-Time Streaming (Remote, $26/Hour)
About arenaflex and the Opportunity Ahead
At arenaflex, we believe that data is the engine that powers innovation, customer experience, and strategic growth. As a forward-thinking organization operating at the intersection of technology, analytics, and customer service, arenaflex is committed to building world-class data infrastructure that transforms how information flows across the business. Our teams are passionate about solving complex data challenges, designing scalable architectures, and turning raw signals into meaningful insights that drive decisions at every level.
We are now seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our growing data organization. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain event-driven data pipelines on Amazon Web Services (AWS) that power personalization, real-time analytics, and operational intelligence across arenaflex. If you are an experienced engineer with deep AWS expertise, a passion for data quality, and a curiosity for emerging cloud technologies, this is your opportunity to make a measurable impact from the comfort of your home.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be a technical leader and hands-on builder responsible for shaping the future of our data platform. Your day-to-day work will include:
- Designing, building, and maintaining event-driven data pipelines on AWS using services such as Amazon EventBridge, AWS Lambda, and AWS Step Functions to support real-time and near-real-time processing needs.
- Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders — including product managers, analysts, data scientists, and software engineers — to gather, refine, and translate business requirements into robust data engineering solutions.
- Implementing and enforcing data quality checks, validation routines, and monitoring to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data flowing through every stage of the pipeline.
- Optimizing data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency, including tuning Lambda execution times, Kinesis shard allocation, and DynamoDB capacity modes.
- Staying ahead of the curve by continuously evaluating new AWS services, features, and architectural patterns that could improve arenaflex’s data ecosystem.
- Developing and deploying personalization algorithms using Python and Pydantic models that leverage clean, well-modeled datasets to deliver tailored customer experiences.
- Designing, building, and maintaining DynamoDB tables and other NoSQL data stores to support high-throughput, low-latency application and analytical use cases.
- Using Amazon Kinesis to collect, process, and analyze streaming data from customer interactions, operational systems, and third-party integrations.
- Documenting architectures, data flows, and operational runbooks to ensure knowledge is shared across the team and that systems are maintainable by others.
- Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a culture of engineering excellence, code review, and continuous improvement within the data organization.
What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Consistently prioritizes the safety, security, and privacy of self, others, and personal data in every decision and action.
- Embraces diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and working styles, contributing to an inclusive and collaborative team environment.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the systems you build and the data they produce.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of delivering production-grade solutions.
- Deep, practical understanding of AWS-native event-driven services, including EventBridge, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, and SNS.
- Solid experience with data modeling, data quality frameworks, and data security best practices.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with serverless development patterns and frameworks.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (especially DynamoDB), including schema design, partitioning strategies, and performance tuning.
- Working knowledge of Amazon Kinesis for streaming data ingestion and processing.
- Experience with data validation libraries such as Pydantic to enforce data contracts and type safety.
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently as a self-directed contributor while also thriving as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.
- Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as AWS CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation is a strong plus.
Skills and Competencies for Success
- Cloud Architecture: Deep understanding of serverless and event-driven design patterns on AWS.
- Data Engineering Best Practices: Strong grasp of ETL/ELT, data modeling (star, snowflake, Data Vault), and data lifecycle management.
- Programming: Advanced Python skills with a focus on writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
- Streaming & Real-Time Processing: Hands-on experience with Kinesis, Kafka, or similar streaming platforms.
- Security & Compliance: Awareness of data privacy regulations, encryption, IAM, and least-privilege access patterns.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into clear technical solutions.
