About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Intelligent Systems

arenaflex is a world‑leading artificial intelligence research and deployment organization dedicated to ensuring that the benefits of advanced AI are shared broadly across humanity. Our mission‑driven culture blends cutting‑edge scientific discovery with real‑world product impact, creating a dynamic environment where data engineers, researchers, and product teams collaborate to shape the next generation of intelligent applications. As a remote‑first company headquartered in San Francisco, USA, arenaflex embraces flexibility, diversity, and a relentless focus on ethical AI development.

Why This Role Matters

At arenaflex, data is the lifeblood of every AI model, product decision, and strategic initiative. As a Data Engineer, you will own the design, construction, and operation of robust data pipelines that feed critical analytics, model training, and business intelligence workflows. Your work will directly influence product performance, user experience, and the responsible deployment of AI technologies that touch millions of lives worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain end‑to‑end data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store high‑volume event data from a variety of sources, ensuring reliability and low latency.
  • Develop and curate approved datasets aligned with core product metrics such as user growth, engagement, and revenue, supporting both internal analytics and external reporting.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Data Science, Product, Marketing, Finance, and Research teams to understand data requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and deliver actionable insights.
  • Implement scalable and fault‑tolerant architectures using distributed processing frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Flink) and cloud storage solutions (e.g., HDFS, Amazon S3).
  • Develop and maintain ETL orchestration using tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect, ensuring smooth scheduling, monitoring, and alerting of data workflows.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code in Python, Scala, or Java, adhering to best practices for readability, testing, and performance.
  • Participate in data modeling and schema design, balancing storage efficiency with query performance to support analytics and machine‑learning workloads.
  • Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with industry standards and arenaflex’s internal policies, including GDPR, CCPA, and internal data‑governance frameworks.
  • Monitor pipeline health using observability tools, proactively identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to maintain high availability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, code reviews, and knowledge sharing within the data team.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Hands‑on experience with distributed processing technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Flink) and cloud storage platforms (e.g., HDFS, Amazon S3).
  • Familiarity with ETL orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect, including workflow scheduling, dependency management, and failure handling.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, schema design, and best practices for data warehousing.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, debug, and optimize production‑grade code, with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude toward identifying and resolving data‑related challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, enabling clear articulation of technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Experience with streaming data platforms such as Apache Kafka or Kinesis.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying data services.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their native data services (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and the ability to collaborate closely with data scientists on model training data preparation.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations and practical experience implementing compliance controls.
  • Prior work in a fast‑growing AI or technology startup environment.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical mindset: Ability to translate business questions into data solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and building strong relationships across the organization.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a rapidly evolving environment where priorities shift and new challenges emerge daily.

  • Mentorship from senior engineers and leading AI researchers.
  • Sponsored attendance at industry conferences, workshops, and technical meetups.
  • Internal training programs covering advanced topics such as real‑time analytics, data lake architecture, and cloud‑native data engineering.
  • Clear career pathways toward senior engineering, data architecture, or product leadership roles.
  • Opportunities to contribute to open‑source projects and publish technical blog posts, enhancing both personal and arenaflex’s brand.
