Web Content Designer (CD) - Position Summary The Content Designer is responsible for planning, creating, organizing, and optimizing digital content that improves user experience, accessibility, and information architecture across public-facing websites and applications. This role transforms user research and business requirements into clear, concise, and accessible content that meets State of California digital service standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain website content strategies.
  • Create user-centered content that supports business and user goals.
  • Ensure content compliance with accessibility and State content standards.
  • Conduct content audits and gap analyses.
  • Develop content governance and editorial guidelines.
  • Improve content discoverability through information architecture and search optimization.
  • Translate user research findings into actionable content solutions.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers, designers, developers, and stakeholders.
  • Manage content within CMS platforms such as WordPress and Drupal.
  • Review and edit content for consistency, usability, and accessibility.

Minimum Qualifications (MQ)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Communications, English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum four (4) years of website content development experience within the last six years.
  • Experience with:
  • Content strategy
  • Content planning and governance
  • Accessibility compliance
  • Search optimization
  • Content editing and management
  • UX writing
  • User-centered design principles
  • Experience translating user research into digital content solutions.
  • Minimum one (1) year supporting a State of California IT project of similar size and complexity.

Desired Qualifications (DQ)

  • Two or more consecutive years of experience with:
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • WordPress
  • Drupal
  • CMS administration
  • Experience with:
  • Content design systems
  • Information architecture
  • UX content strategy
  • Accessibility testing tools
  • State government website modernization experience.
