Senior Film Archivist

Our client, a renowned digital preservation organization, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Film Archivist to join their fully remote team. This role is crucial in managing, cataloging, and preserving a vast collection of historical and contemporary film assets. You will be responsible for developing and implementing digital archiving strategies, ensuring the long-term accessibility and integrity of valuable cinematic content. Your expertise will directly contribute to making cultural heritage available for future generations. Responsibilities include: Overseeing the acquisition, organization, and cataloging of film assets using established archival standards and best practices. Developing and maintaining metadata schemas for digital film collections, ensuring consistency and accuracy. Implementing and managing digital preservation workflows, including format migration, quality control, and secure storage solutions. Conducting research and providing subject matter expertise on film history, genres, and technical specifications. Collaborating with digitization teams to ensure high-quality scanning and image capture processes. Managing access requests and facilitating the use of archival materials for research, exhibition, and educational purposes. Staying abreast of emerging technologies and trends in digital archiving and film preservation. Training and mentoring junior archival staff on best practices and workflows. Contributing to grant writing and fundraising efforts for archival projects. Maintaining accurate records and generating reports on collection status and archival activities. Qualifications: Master's degree in Archival Studies, Library Science, Film Studies, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in film archiving, digital asset management, or a closely related field. Demonstrated knowledge of film formats, preservation techniques, and archival metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS). Proficiency with digital asset management (DAM) systems and archival cataloging software. Experience with video editing software and digital imaging principles. Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with a keen eye for detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a remote setting. Familiarity with copyright law and intellectual property issues related to archival materials.
